How solar PV system works

Sun emits 3.86 x 10^26 watts of energy, but most of that energy goes off into space and about 1.74 x 10^17 watts strikes the earth which can be utilized. Solar PV systems use cells to convert sunlight into electricity. The bombarding energy can be termed as photons (hv) and the PV cell consists of one or two layers of a semiconducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers causing electricity to flow.
