Taking the Enterpreneurial Leap: Sneha Roy and Sananda Misra

What would you rather do? Laze around at home on the weekend, or play with your kids on the much-looked-forward to Sunday? Or push the shopping trolley all over the overcrowded supermarket looking for bread and eggs, washing powder and vegetables for week?
This conundrum was unraveled over a cup of coffee when Bangalore witnessed the birth of toptomato.in (Bangalore’s no. 1 online grocery) by two alumnus of IIT Kharagpur. With an investment of Rs. 5 lakhs, two women IITians Sneha Roy and Sananda Misra founded the venture.
A graduate from IIT Kharagpur in Electronics and Instrumental Engineering, Sneha comes with 3 years experience in diverse business functions in FMCG ranging from supply chain, production, operations, logistics, e-commerce and business development. After her graduation, she joined ITC Limited as an Assistant Manager for 2 years, where she handled a multitude of projects worth over INR 200 crores in diverse fields like renewable energy, supply chain and tobacco processing technology. Moreover, she accomplished the “Platinum Green Building Rating”, awarded by the Indian Green Building Council, for ITC Bangalore manufacturing unit. Then, she along with her friend co-founded toptomato.in.
On the same note, Sananda Misra has completed her graduation under the stream Electronics and Instrumental Engineering. Post her graduation, she joined Procter and Gamble Ltd as Project Manager in Bhopal. She was the projects Control Head in the Pamper Pants localization project in India and has worked extensively with purchasing and Customs Teams. Particularly interested in working with other FMCG companies in India, she unveiled her talent when she joined as supply Chain Head at toptomato.in in 2012.The two were also featured in the Economic Times and the Times Of India apart from all major tech blogs.
The ‘brainchild’ of the duo boasts their first of its kind in India a subscription delivery service. So, put an order for eggs, milk, washing powder weekly or as often as you need. You set up the time and date and forget about it except to be at home with cash on delivery. Secondly, you get a discount on every item- nothing sells at MRP.
These rousing and impressive techies have proved that women have broken down the glass ceiling of the traditional male-dominated entrepreneurship. “With toptomato we want to simplify life for those like me who want to avoid mundane chores”, says Sneha. And, this innovation was the kick off of this investment.
